About Me
I work in IT, which pays well but can be pretty stressful, so I want to have the option to quit early and do something else that is more meaningful but less rewarding financially.
Why I Joined
Curiosity, and inspiration to keep me focused on my goals. Originally joined NetworthIQ, and migrated to NetworthShare after that site shuttered following its sale.
Best Financial Decision
Contributing the max to my 401(k) plan as soon as eligibly possible, and letting the power of compounding work its magic. Currently, only about a quarter of my 401(k) plan balance is from payroll deductions; the rest is the result of company matching and growth.
Worst Financial Decision
1. Listening to a friend's stock advice (got burned but learned my lesson, index funds are a much safer bet IMO). 2. Not having enough insurance to adequately protect my assets (extra insurance is cheap, as is umbrella insurance).
Current Investing Strategy
Accumulate wealth by 1) living below my means, 2) maximizing my savings & investments (and accept market returns by using low cost index funds), and 3) avoiding toxic consumer debt.
How do you manage your finances?
By myself, using personal finance software and online tools. I don't use a "professional" because I don't think their crystal balls are any better than mine. Also, I firmly believe in taking an active interest in my own finances, rather than abdicating that responsibility to someone who may not be as motivated or have my best interests at heart.
What tools do you use?
Personal finance software, spreadsheets, and online tools.
I need financial help with...
Staying motivated.
