Why I Joined
I use this site as a data point in our overall retirement plan. It's encouraging to see what others have built by my age. It makes me want to try harder.
Best Financial Decision
Locking in student loans and mortgages at historically low rates (this was more “luck” and less “decision”)
Maxing out my 401k (although I just started in 2020)
Starting a 529 for our child at birth
Worst Financial Decision
#1 (ab)using credit cards.
#2 contributing small percentages to 401k/taking loans from 401k to pay down credit cards.
Current Investing Strategy
2022: Max out HSA + spouse/my 401k. End of year update: We did it! (mostly. We maxed as much as we could while eligible)

2023: Max out HSA + minimum 401k to get match + pay down HELOC since the interest rate crept up so much. End of year update: We failed to pay down HELOC by much due to unplanned expenses.

2024: Max out HSA + my 401k. Put in minimum on spouse's 401k to get match.
This year we're going to try and max out 2 Roth IRAs. This should put us around 25% Personal Savings Rate.
How do you manage your finances?
401k on autopilot:
- 34% global/international (Vanguard index)
- 20% small cap (Fidelity index)
- 20% mid cap (Fidelity index)
- 20% large cap (Fidelity index)
- 6% global real estate
(60/40 US/Global exposure)

RothIRA set to "VTI & chill"
What tools do you use?
Budget and long-term planning in Excel.
I was a Quicken user for years but jumped ship to YNAB in '19 or '20
I need financial help with...
Boosting income.
