About Me
[6-23] Portfolio was down 27% in 2022, so we cut back the spending level.
[10-12-21] Retired in 2021
[10/20/17] update with some old data put back now that the site fixed the graph issue. Looking back over the years, I figured that I'm basically getting an 8% return coupled with saving 8K to 10K of my income every month.
[5/26/17] set a preliminary date for early retirement in 26 months.
[4/5/17] not updated for over a year since I have to tracking with Personal Capital lately, this is still good place for comparisons.
Married for 12 years, no kid. I started working in 1997, saved about 100k in IRA, then I was trading too much and that account went to maybe 30k. In 2003, due to some difficult time at my place of work, we were down to about less than $100 in savings besides my IRA. That's when I started a freedom fund saving for rainy days. Did that for the next 4 years before started invest again. Much more buy and hold. [2017 goal met but I decide to keep going since work is still fun and maybe we will target early retirement instead of a year off ]

Why I Joined
It is very insightful comparing with others and try to figure out where I fell short. Prior to joining NS, I was with networthIQ but they stopped maintaining it. I'm very happy I've found a new community.
Best Financial Decision
Kept on investing, save for freedom fund using INGDIRECT (aka 360); Living on budget using one paycheck only, save spouse's paycheck for the future.
Worst Financial Decision
trade too frequently
Current Investing Strategy
Starts to invest some of the cash we have (Spouse was very conservative, little too conservative for our age) into S&P 500 index fund (VOO) and Muni fund (HYD). Rest of the portifolio is in stocks.
For the retirement account, I'm moving most to lowest cost index funds and let it grow for the next 20 or so years while I max out on the contribution each year.
