Notes:
Woke up one morning last week and had an urge to actually own stock, not just managed funds. I think a man should own stock! Borrowed $14,400 against my house to buy Telecom shares (@2.56) and Infratil (@ 1.49) and also put money into the Australian market via two index funds and set up regular contributions (via www.smartshares.co.nz). Decided to adjust my house value, for all entries, back to its 2007 rateable value and will keep it at that level. Strangely, and against all initial predictions at the beginning of the year, property has almost recovered in the main centres. New RV out end of next year. Note: I am now slowly building up earmarked funds that I don't include in my networth. These include funds for: house maintenance; holidays; medical; and a little fund to allow me to update my technology when the next best thing comes along (specifically an OLED TV). I use online Raboplus accounts to manage the earmark funds.
