Well, another year finished. It has been a banner year financially, my net worth started 2013 at $948298.93, and I have managed to increase it by just over 38% with a final net worth of $1309328.91. I am obviously well over the million mark in terms of net worth, and it has been really surprising how a well-balanced investment portfolio can really do a lot of work for you behind the scenes. Obviously the markets did very well this year, that certainly helped a ton.

I just also realized that I crossed another significant threshold in that I have exceeded a million in liquid assets (i.e. not real estate), so that puts me truly into the millionaire category. Not that this makes me feel special in any way, of course. My real estate has also increased in value from the current $322,000 that is the listed amount (the price I originally paid), so if I were to pro-rate that number my final total would be even higher. Again, this doesn't really mean anything as I still have to find a place to live.

At this point, I am not certain what my next goals are from the financial perspective. I have no meaningful debt, I still need to tweak my investment portfolio but my strategy of choosing blue-chip dividend payers has done well this year, so I suppose the goal this year will be to exceed the $1.6 million mark with a longer-term goal to hitting $2 million in two years. More significantly, from the personal standpoint, I am looking forward to finding stability and happiness and perhaps even having a family soon! When all of that happens, all of this financial stuff will take second fiddle... which is where it should rightfully be. Best of 2014 to everyone!
