The invasion of Ukraine is extremely troubling - my heart goes out to it's citizens. I wish the US could do more, but the stakes are very high. The whole situation is going to make for a very rocky time in the markets.

Reached the lock in date for a small number of shares that were granted to me at work two years back. The stock price has dropped almost 50% since they were granted - at this point the award is almost laughable, but we've added it to our balance nonetheless.

If all goes well we should get a bonus next month - that should be more substantial.

Back over $2M mid-month. Do we thank Zelensky for this? I've been a little obsessed over the war - gave a few hundred dollars towards the cause (matched by my employer), but feel rather pathetic given the true costs so far.

What a shitty world we live in... Our focus is on buying a modest house on the Gulf Coast in a few years, while at the same time there are people on the other side of the world that have no food and are praying that a cruise missile doesn't hit their home. Argh! Damn you Putin!

And sadly there is suffering in other parts of the world (e.g. Ethiopia) that most people in the US (including myself) don't give a damn about.

Just received my annual pay increase - 3.18%. Ugh!!!! There was an 11k bonus to go with that, but it kind of falls short of expectations given how hard I bust my ass and more importantly the inflation rate (hard to ignore).

Given that our plan is to walk away in 2 - 3 years we will just grin and bear it. Even still, the rate increase feels insulting.

On a positive note, the other half just got a 33% raise for her part time job. Not bad...

I echo your sentiments about Ukraine and other people in the world who are suffering. I've been following the philosophy of Stoicism for a few years, and it's helped to deal with some of the feelings of helplessness and despair during these uncertain times. By the way, my annual raise was also only 3% (however my bonus was higher than yours), so I feel your frustration. You're close to the finish line, so hang in there!

I'm with you on Ukraine. I've made a couple of donations - one to an aid organization, and, once I found one that existed, one that can be used to fund weapons for Ukraine. I'm torn between wanting to do more, and feeling like I don't understand the situation enough to insert myself. As to raises - my company usually does about 2.25%. This year they realized they needed to allot more, so they bumped it up to ... 3%. I applied for a different job internally a couple of months ago, and my bump in pay for my new role is closer to 6%, but that bump replaces the 3% I would have gotten. So still not keeping up with inflation. I generally like my job and have a ton of flexibility, so I'm not going anywhere. But I do get a little eye-roll-y when comp increases are discussed. :)

I agree with you about Ukraine, and also about the lack of media coverage in Ethiopia, Yemen, etc. Glad to hear about your partner's pay increase too!! In terms of the pay increase, do you mind sharing how much of your pay is through salary vs. shares? For me it would have been 60-40 as granted last year except stock growth made it 40-60 as vested. So I tend to keep a closer eye on the new stock grant rather than the salary increase. The structure makes it really hard to compare comp between companies as shares of different companies behave so differently, I still haven't figured out a good way to do it.

@labangel - My entire pay increase is through salary (thank god!). I got a one time grant of $4k in shares two years ago, which just unlocked. I'm debating selling the shares (which are currently underwater), as my company's performance is dismal - bad enough that we got the boot from a major index a few years back, which may give you some clue who I work for. Sounds like your company has more promise than mine. Good for you.
