Career: I've been putting in a consistent number of hours at work, so that's something. As a result I've caused a breakage last week. I have enough experience to know that breaking things is part of the process to setting things right, so that's what I'll do this week. It's a new quarter, time to wrap up last month's work and move on to doing this quarter's work.
Life: I got pre-approved for a mortgage last month and realized how important credit scores are. My partner and I have been good with credit but not perfect and our scores are in the 700s. I made a spreadsheet of how much housing would cost us if we decided to own a property rather than rent an apartment. Owning would be ~30K more per year without accounting for the tax deduction for interest; we would decrease how much we invest per year by this amount so there's also opportunity cost. I want to move out of the foggy area we live in and while owning a place will definitely cause lifestyle creep from how we live right now, I think it's worth it to lock in low interest rates and fixed housing expenses instead of paying increasing amounts of rent through the years.
Financial: The stock market went down in the past month, and my holdings been especially affected as almost half my net worth is in big tech/nasdaq. On the plus side I finished mega backdoor 401K contributions for the year and my paychecks will be bigger for the next few months so I can save up earnest money to make offers on properties. This is the first year I took advantage of this even though I've had access to it for years.
Health & wellness: My partner started working out and encouraging me to exercise too so I restarted the Ironborn program from darebee.com. I really appreciate my partner for the reminder to work out every day, it helps kick start the habit and I can usually continue the habit once it's established. |
