Notes:
Still procrastinating on the convert-old-401Ks-to-Roth-IRA project... Still torn on the home buying dilemma. 4.75% CD finally up this month. (boo!) Our new HYS will be in effect in early August. Oh, also, hurts the numbers big time: My husband has student loans. As a graduation gift to him, his parents decided to pay them on his behalf. For 10 years now, they have been doing so. He actually knew nothing of the loan details. Not the balance, the payment, or the rate. Nothing. Because of this, we'd never included it in our net worth. (Though I have gone back and updated prior months to include it.) His parents are doing fine financially (not super, but fine) and have been making a hair over the minimum payment for the past 10 years. It has been on his mind for the last few years that he would throw a lump of his savings to pay down the loan. His parents would never accept the money, but the loan is in his name, so of course he would be able to make the payment without consulting them. So we ascertained that his initial loan balance was 15K, and after 10 years, it is down to about 10K. He really feels "sick" that they put so much toward a education in a discipline that he doesn't really use. He really wants to pay this loan off. I hate to say it, but I'm sad to see our net worth decline. But our money is his money, and I understand and fully support his decision.
